Facts about creatures

Harvest mice live in grain fields and long grass in Europe and Asia.

They are tiny, weighing between five and eleven grams.

The  harvest mouse is famous for its nest-building abilities.

Both male and female harvest mice sleep in nests on the ground. The female herself builds a nest for her babies out of shredded blades of wheat or grass. She hangs the nest above the ground.

The nest is very tightly packed, to protect the babies inside.

The harvest mouse has a prehensile tail, which is very useful for nest-building. She can steady herself on the blade of grass with her four feet while using her tail to build the nest.
