Maroon Oriole
The maroon oriole is a passerine whose range extends from India through southeastern Asia.
It lives in tropical and subtropical forests.
The male maroon oriole can be distinguished by its red body, black head and black wings.
The female’s body is darker with dark markings on the chest.
The maroon oriole eats nectar, seeds, berries, figs and insects.
Both male and female care for the young.
Maroon oriole nests are built high up in trees. The nests are hanging pockets of bark, grass and fiber, with a rim woven over two forking twigs.
The male will fight other birds that get too close to its nest.
